MSC increases the Power Purchase Adjustment (PPA)

Date Posted: Tuesday, May 7th, 2024

We regret to inform you of a 3.8% increase in electric rates, following closely on a recent rate adjustment. Changes in state and federal energy policies have led to the retirement of older coal plants and the delay in new renewable energy plants coming online, reducing power supply and increasing costs.

All electric customers on the Delmarva Peninsula will be affected, with an expected $177 million impact over 12 months. Due to our partial ownership of Beasly Power Plant, MSC’s impact will be lower, at $271,130.67 annually, roughly a 3.38% increase, still maintaining the lowest residential electric rate in the state despite other providers facing up to 10% increases.

We understand the inconvenience of such changes but remain committed to providing the lowest-cost electric power while transitioning to cleaner energy sources. You will see this reflected as a Power Purchase Adjustment (PPA) on your bill.
